For years, I have been convinced the main reasons that homeowners end up in a "project of horrors" is because of poor field surveys (which is the measuring, locating of utilities, drawing of design detail and full investigation of the existing building), rushing the process and poor drawings. The amount of detail that a drawing shows is not so much for the building department personel to approve the permit. Rather, it is to relate to the contractor what is required and desired by the owner to build. Otherwise, there is only guessing as to what should be built- the result is cost overruns and high blood pressure. When the plans are well detailed you, the homeowner, stay in charge. I am also convinced that good, quality contractors believe in solid planning that result in quality, detailed drawings with no surprises. They can only lead to staying on schedule which produces a fair profit and a happy client. So, please review these drawings that are from a few projects that GrayScale was commissioned to design, plan, and draw. They have been chosen not for their complexity or grandeur, rather to demonstrate thoroughness and attention to what is important. Ask yourself if there are any doubts as to what the builder is to construct. (Also please note that all GrayScale plans are in full color - not black and white - for greater detail.)
Sincerely, Jim Campana, Owner GrayScale Planning and Design
